Chocolate Covered Strawberries

Served with champagne, these chocolate-covered strawberries are a perfect desert to compliment a romantic dinner for two.

  • 16 ounces milk chocolate chips ( don't skimp and buy the cheap stuff)
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries with leaves (succulent large ripe ones)

Insert toothpicks into the tops of the strawberries.

In a double boiler* melt the chocolate and shortening, stirring occasionally until smooth.

Hold the strawberries by the toothpicks and gently dip the into the chocolate mixture.

Place strawberries down on a piece of wax paper. If you want a more flawless effect turn strawberries upside down and insert the toothpick into a piece of Styrofoam for the chocolate to cool.

Finding yourself in a rush? Place the whole batch in the freezer for 20 minutes to speed up the process.

*If you don't have a double boiler, fill one pot with boiling water, and place a metal bowl/pot over the it, boom homemade double boiler.
